At the center of this picture is this big, heavy, unidentifiable object. How did it end up here of all places? I guess the same could be said for the tragic events we’ve seen in Charleston over the past year.
Out of nowhere, in a beautiful city renowned for its hospitality and evangelical roots, we have this great unsightly burden of tragedy and grief washed up on our shores. It’s also a bittersweet reminder of the beauty of God’s plan. While God’s plan is never tragedy, Charleston has been hand-delivered a challenge, a great temptation to overcome.
Given our history, what better place and platform to serve as an example for the country to display the power of peace, prayer, and community at work. And so, just as the seas of change and unrest surround the Low Country swept the conflict in, we together, through the grace of God and the faith of His people, have learned that conflict, tragedy and trouble can be pushed back out with everlasting ‘seas’, waters ‘stirred up’ to a wave of unity. As waters cover the sea, the power of the Holy Spirit will spread across the country and around the world. We can see the ominous storms on the horizon; the waves are pounding and the wind is blowing…but ‘WE WON’T BE SHAKEN!’
